Kerala restaurant in Berlin-Friedrichshain: how to find us, order and what to try first

kokoland is a Kerala restaurant in Berlin-Friedrichshain. We cook the food of Kerala, India's green south-western coast: porotta, beef roast, biryani, pathiri, puttu, curries with coconut and curry leaves, and street food to share. This is the practical guide for your first visit.

Please check today's menu before you come: our menu changes with the kitchen, and new dishes appear regularly.
Three ways to eat with us
1. Sit down. Come in, pick a table and scan the QR code on the table to order from your phone. You see what you are about to send before it goes to the kitchen, and you can order again later; everything stays on one tab. You pay at the counter, by card or on the reader.
2. Take it away. Order on this website for pickup at a time you choose. Everything is cooked fresh, so the earliest time is about 30 minutes from now. Larger pickup orders are paid online when you order, smaller ones you can pay at the restaurant.
3. Book a table. Reserve a table with your name, phone number and email, and we send a confirmation. You can also pre-order dishes for your booking, so the food is ready when you sit down.
For celebrations and bigger groups, see our catering.
What to order on your first visit
If you are new to Kerala food, start here:
- Porotta with beef roast: the flaky bread with slow-cooked, peppery beef. Read porotta and beef roast, explained.
- A biryani: fragrant rice with chicken or beef, milder than many biryanis you may know.
- Pathiri, puttu or kappa with curry: the Kerala breads and staples. See pathiri, puttu and kappa.
- Street food to share: samosa, cutlet, onion pakoda, Gobi Manchurian or paneer chilli.
- A chai to finish.

Vegetarian, vegan, allergies
There is a lot for vegetarians: chickpea curry (kadala), vegetable kuruma, paneer dishes, Gobi Manchurian, samosas. Some dishes can be made vegan, and we will tell you honestly which. Ghee, yoghurt and wheat appear in our kitchen, so if you have an allergy, please tell us when you order. More in vegetarian and vegan in Kerala cuisine.
