Kerala and Indian street food in Berlin: what to order on your first visit

Kerala food is generous, and a first visit is more fun when you know how to order. This is how we would eat at kokoland if it were our first time.
Think "Kerala plus street food"
Our menu mixes two things:
- Kerala dishes, such as porotta with beef roast, kappa biryani, and biryanis.
- Indian street food and Indo-Chinese favourites, such as samosas, pakoda, cutlets, paneer chilli, chilli pork and gobi manchurian: crunchy, saucy and made for sharing.
The menu rotates with what the kitchen is cooking, so look at the menu page for what is on today.
If you are one person
Pick one main and one crunchy side:
- A porotta with beef roast or a biryani as your main.
- A cutlet, samosa or banana fritter on the side.
If you are two
Order one porotta dish, one biryani or rice bowl, and one starter to share. Sharing is the best way to taste the range.
If you are a group
Order several mains for the middle of the table plus a few starters, and tear and share. Planning a birthday, a team dinner or a wedding? Our catering takes care of larger groups.
Heat, in plain words
- Mild: biryanis, most rice bowls, banana fritters and samosas. Kerala biryani is fragrant, not fiery.
- Medium: beef roast and beef fry (peppery rather than chilli-hot), pepper chicken.
- Spicier: chilli pork and paneer chilli, which have a kick but are never an endurance test.
If you are unsure, tell us how spicy you like it and we will point you in the right direction.
Vegetarian and vegan guests
There are good vegetarian dishes on the menu, including paneer dishes, gobi manchurian, vegetable cutlets and samosas. Vegan options depend on the day, since ghee and yogurt are common in Indian cooking, so ask us and we will tell you honestly what is vegan that day. More about this in our post on vegetarian eating in Kerala cuisine.
Ordering ahead
You can order takeaway or a table pre-order on the website and choose a time, so the food is ready when you get here. Scan the QR code at your table to order from your seat.
