We’re looking for a Unit Chief for the Site Evaluation and Remediation Unit (SERU) to oversee the unit that works on the investigation and cleanup of a wide variety of sites, including sites that may have had dry-cleaning, industrial manufacturing, mining, and/or agricultural operations. As a Senior Engineering Geologist you will have the opportunity to:

• Supervise staff and analyze sites to ensure that projects are managed in an efficient and administratively sound manner
• Analyze and manage project resources including project management staff within the Unit and support staff such as geological, engineering, legal, public participation, and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and project budgets from grants, direct site cleanup funds, and Voluntary Cleanup Agreements
• Train and assist staff in identifying potential project delays and possible solutions to resolve delays and difficult issues
• Consult and coordinate with other DTSC programs and identifies and implements other agency requirements pertaining to the sites
• Review, evaluate, and approve technical work related to site investigation and cleanup.
• Oversee and ensure that DTSC’s Health and Safety policies, and procedures are properly carried out by staff

Statement of Qualification (SOQ) Instructions

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required for the hiring manager’s review. Applications submitted without an SOQ may be disqualified.

The SOQ should be a maximum of 2-pages, ten (10) point Arial font.

1. Describe why you are a highly qualified candidate for this position based on your review of the Duty Statement for this position.

2. Describe your experience managing soil and groundwater investigations and cleanup projects.

3. Describe your experience working with state and federal agencies, elected officials, local governments, community groups, environmental activists, and responsible parties.
