Oil States is looking for candidates for the position of Technical Writer I. This position is on-site full time and located in Arlington, TX.

Citizenship Requirements –

By contractual requirements, the project and job location for this position requires that all persons establish proof of US Citizenship. Position Summary

Under direct supervision from a supervisor or other experienced technical writers, writes and edits reports, manuals, specifications, procedures, quality control plans, proposals, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications as they relate to the following duties and responsibilities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supports efforts to assemble/organize background material and writes accurate, clear, concise documents of a style and technical level appropriate to the target audience.
  • Develops communication with engineering, manufacturing, quality, project management and administrative personnel for the purpose of gaining insights and background information required for writing assignments.
  • Observes manufacturing, testing and analytical activities to gain the level of understanding necessary to complete writing assignments.
  • Supports efforts to assimilate information from mechanical drawings, sketches, specifications, procedures, parts lists, technical publications, observations and personal interviews to establish a clear understanding of the subject matter and scope of the assignment.
  • As requested, reviews existing documents for accuracy, inconsistencies, contradictions and grammar, then pursues the necessary corrective measures.
  • Seeks to constantly improve the quality and content of company documentation.
  • Supports efforts to Assemble graphical aids and photographs that enhance the clarity and understanding of documents.
  • Works effectively within the constraints of the company document control system.
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with at least 0 – 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; Associates degree in a technical field with at least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; or at least 6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment writing technical documentation without a degree.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and quality control operations.
  • Familiarity with the petroleum industry, specifically of offshore drilling, production and development a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a very strong command of the English language, grammar and punctuation.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office and PDF software for creating documentation.
  • Familiarity of document control software a plus.
  • Proficient using CAD and graphics software to create rendered illustrations from existing drawings.
  • Self-starter who looks for innovative and creative ways of completing assignments within the assigned time frame.
  • Proficient observations skills with the instincts to detect inconsistencies or conflicts in information used to produce technical documents.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends to meet document deadlines.

Physical Requirements

  • Use of a computer, telephone and other office equipment, including copier/scanner, etc.
  • Prolonged sitting.
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Moderate bending, stooping, carrying, reaching and use of stairs.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds frequently and 20 pounds occasionally.
