Position Description

We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher with a background in Physical Oceanography to join the research group of Professor Fiamma Straneo (jointly across the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences) at Harvard University. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, the Irminger Sea, and the oceanography of the Southwest Greenland shelf as part of the Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP, ). The postdoc is expected to work with a variety of data (moored, vessel-based, and remotely-sensed) and to work closely with Professor Straneo and her team. Engagement in the planning and execution of fieldwork, and in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, is also expected.

The initial appointment will be for one year with a possibility for renewal of a second year depending on performance and availability of funds.

Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a related field is required by the time of appointment.

Additional Qualifications

Experience in analyzing hydrographic, velocity, and other oceanographic data (including programming in Matlab or Python) is highly desirable, as is expertise in collecting field observations. Strong oral and written communication skills are expected.
